Squirrels – A Fun First Step into Scouting!
Squirrels meet every Wednesday and Friday from 5 to 6 PM, welcoming boys and girls aged 4 to 6 years. This program offers young children their first exciting step into the world of Scouting.
Our weekly meetings take place during term time, mostly in our hall, but we like to keep things exciting! We regularly explore the outdoors, visiting local parks, campsites, and activity centres to enjoy fun and educational activities.
If you have any questions or are interested in joining our drey, we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch using the details below!
Squirrel Scout Promise
All Squirrel Scouts make the promise when they are invested, and renew it yearly (usually during our St George’s Day parade)
I promise to do my best
To be kind and helpful
And to love God
Variations of the promise for different faiths can be found here.
Squirrel Scout Motto
Our Squirrel Scout motto is a phrase to help Squirrels remember a key scouting value.

Smart Trouser/Skirt and Shoes
For parades and some other events, we like our Squirrels to look smart in school trousers/skirt with a pair of preferably black shoes
Where To Buy Uniform
Uniform can be bought online on a number of websites, some of our favourites (with links) are below.
Uniform can also be bought in person from
Also, the Group has a small selection of second hand uniforms available. Enquiries should be made to your section leader.
Badges
During their time as Squirrel Scouts, our young members work towards earning various badges. These badges are proudly sewn onto their Squirrel uniform, showcasing the valuable skills they have developed.
We have 3 main types of badges:
Activity Badges
From Be Active to Super Chef, activity badges are earned for taking part in meetings over the term
Staged Activity Badges
Staged activity badges cover skills that you will develop over your time as a Squirrel, Beaver, Cub, and Scout. From Nights Away to Swimming, these badges have a small number on them so you can see your progress
Challenge Badges
Challenge badges are usually completed over a number of weeks/months. Earning all of the challenge badges will award the Chief Scout’s Acorn Award, the highest award a Squirrel Scout can earn.

If you are stuck with where to sew a badge, speak to a Squirrel leader at your next meeting.
Moving Up
Eventually, the time will come to “move up” from Squirrels and take on the exciting new adventure of becoming a Beaver Scout.
Volunteers
We’re always on the lookout for helpers and aspiring leaders. With flexible volunteering options, we can accommodate any amount of time you can offer—there’s a role for everyone!
